  1. Celebrating the Season
    Black Mountain Elementary School students and staff recorded a virtual concert involving each class (or
    teams of classes) singing songs and playing instruments which they have been practicing in their music
    classes. The completed project will be shown to students and staff in their classrooms on Thursday,
    December 16, 2021. A special thank you to Black Mountain Elementary music teacher, Rachael Pauls, for
    her efforts in recording the virtual concert and for preparing a 10 minute video for the Board to view.

  2. Chantelle Colthorp, Aboriginal Head Start Association of BC – Aboriginal Head Start Specialist
    The Board of Education congratulated Chantelle Colthorp for receiving the 2021 Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Early Childhood Education Certificate of Achievement. Ms. Colthorp was formerly the Early Childhood Educator at Awasisak Achakos Head Start situated at South Rutland Elementary School.
  3. James Strachan, Physics and Engineering teacher at École Kelowna Secondary School
    In attendance: Troy White, Principal, École Kelowna Secondary School
    The Board of Education congratulated James Strachan, physics and engineering teacher at École Kelowna
    Secondary School, for receiving the National Certificate of Achievement from the 2021 Prime Minister’s
    Awards for Teaching Excellence.
  4. École Kelowna Secondary School Owls Football Team

    A video was shown of the final seconds of the École Kelowna Secondary School Owls Football Team recent win of the Subway Bowl North/Interior Championships. The Board of Education congratulated the team and coaches on this exciting win and a very successful season.

  1. Enhancement Agreement – École Peter Greer Elementary School GaGa Ball Court
    The Board of Education agreed to enter into an Enhancement Agreement with École Peter Greer
    Elementary School PAC for the creation of a GaGa Ball Court.
  2. Enhancement Agreement – Rutland Elementary School GaGa Ball Court
    The Board of Education agreed to enter into an Enhancement Agreement with the Rutland Elementary
    School PAC for the creation of a GaGa Ball Court.
  3. Amendments to Policy 161 – Accumulated Operating Surplus
    The Board of Education approved the amendments to Policy 161 – Accumulated Operating Surplus to bring the Policy into alignment with the K-12 Public Education Accumulated Operating Surplus Policy.
  4. 2021-2022 Budget Timeline and Budget Development Principles
    The Board of Education approved the 2021-2022 Budget Timeline.
  5. Enrollment Application Dates for 2022/2023 School Year
    The Board of Education approved the initial enrollment application dates for the 2022/2023 school year be set as January 31, 2022 through to March 18, 2022. The closing date for enrollment applications, in order to apply the Board’s enrollment application priorities as established in Regulations 405R – Student
    Placement (Regulations), be set as September 1, 2022.
  6. Trustee Reassignments to BCPSEA Representative Council and BCSTA Provincial Council
    The Board of Education appointed Trustee Fraser to the BCPSEA Representative Council and Trustee
    Bowman to the BCSTA Provincial Council.

    Items of Special Mention
    The Board Chair, Trustees and the Superintendent of Schools/CEO spoke of the following:
     Each year, the Board of Education hosts a reception to recognize staff celebrating 10, 20, 30, 35 and
    40 years of service, as well as to welcome new employees. For the past two years, due to COVID-19,
    the Board of Education has been unable to host this reception. Staff celebrating years of service are
    being recognized with their certificates and pins at the school level and new employees received a letter
    from the Board of Education welcoming them to Central Okanagan Public Schools. The number of
    employees receiving their years of service recognition is:

    40 Years 1
    Trustee Julia Fraser was recognized and congratulated for her ten years of service with the District.
    The Board of Education also acknowledged and congratulated Deputy Superintendent, Terry
    Beaudry, who is celebrating forty years with the District.
